“In my capacity as a mediator, I bear witness daily to the emotional toll litigation takes on lawyers on both sides of the aisle. The pressure to make absolutely certain every angle of a case has been accounted for is palpable. Throw in managing client expectations, ever-looming deadlines, and weighty consequences for errors, it is no surprise that many lawyers feel lost and overwhelmed. These levels of extreme stress must be tempered with time to focus on one's mental health, and I am grateful to see that our profession is finally encouraging wellness and eliminating stigmas. I was lucky enough to attend the Women Lawyers Wellness Summit in 2023 and it was a refreshing, relaxing, and informative experience. We were able to bond over our shared experiences, discuss how we manage our stress, and learn how to do so much more effectively. The support and camaraderie were exactly what I needed! I recommend this event to all women!”

“After an exhausting holiday season and mad dash into the new year, I showed up to the 2023 women’s wellness event depleted, but hopeful. From the moment the event began, the pressure to be ‘on’ subsided. I was comforted to know that many other women were struggling to run at the familiar, albeit unsustainable, pace I seemed to be sprinting at. This event provided the tools, resources, and community to reframe the way that we work — and in turn, our lives. It helped reinstate the passion I have for the law, while implementing boundaries to be the best lawyer, friend, sister, daughter, and partner I can be. I couldn’t be more grateful to Betty for putting on this phenomenal event and I am so excited to see all of the transformation that occurs for those in attendance in 2024!”

“I had the pleasure of attending last year’s wellness program, and I am thankful for the opportunity to have attended. Mental and physical wellness is a major part of my life, in that it embodies who I am. I learned early on when I was entering into the legal profession, that I would need to get a good grasp of how to balance my work life and personal life. Sometimes taking care of yourself in our profession is difficult because people (colleagues, clients, family, etc.) expect us to always be working, or always available for them at a moment’s notice — this is not healthy! Years ago, I found that these methods in our profession are unhealthy, and I made a commitment to myself to not only take care of myself but spread the same encouragement to others. I know that in doing so, I am a better lawyer and person in the community.

Being surrounded by like-minded women lawyers at the wellness program was empowering, enlightening, and therapeutic. I think there are still many people who talk about wellness, but don’t practice it or truly know what it means to take care of yourself and put yourself first.

During the program, I listened to women share their stories, their struggles, their emotions, and give practical approaches to taking care of themselves, while managing businesses and their legal careers. I felt comfortable in the space and shared some of my story as well because I felt seen, heard, and appreciated. I highly recommend this program, and I look forward to being a part of many more!”
